Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Um Out ("Um Out," "we," "us," or "our") handles personal information when you visit our website, create an account, use our Premiere Pro product and companion application, contact support, or purchase a plan.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account data: email address, password hash, and account preferences.
  • Support data: messages, attachments, diagnostic details you choose to share, and chat metadata.
  • Billing data: plan, payment status, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, refunds, and cancellation status. Stripe processes card details directly.
  • Content you submit: text or media sent to a hosted AI feature, if you intentionally choose one. Local-only features do not require us to receive your footage.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and license data: a random installation identifier, device name, operating system, product version, activation date, last license check, plan, and entitlement status.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, request timestamps, error codes, security logs, and basic website analytics where enabled.
  • Product diagnostics: crash and performance information when diagnostics are enabled or deliberately sent to support. We aim to avoid collecting video content in diagnostic logs.

2. How we use information

  • create and secure accounts;
  • start a 7-day trial, activate permitted devices, issue signed license leases, and enforce plan limits;
  • process purchases, cancellations, chargebacks, and refunds;
  • provide requested local or hosted product features;
  • answer support requests and operate the help center;
  • detect abuse, fraud, credential attacks, and service failures;
  • improve reliability and understand aggregated product usage;
  • send service messages and, with permission where required, product news; and
  • comply with law and enforce our agreements.

3. Local processing, AI, and API keys

Core editing actions are intended to run through the Um Out companion on your computer. A hosted AI feature may send the specific content required for that feature to the selected provider. The interface will identify hosted processing before it occurs.

If you use your own AI provider key, the product is designed to store it in your operating system credential store and send it only to the provider you selected. Do not paste private keys into support chat. The provider's own privacy terms apply to requests sent to that provider.

4. How we share information

We share information only as needed with service providers acting for us, including:

  • Stripe for checkout, billing, fraud prevention, and the customer portal;
  • Supabase for managed database infrastructure;
  • Vercel for website and API hosting;
  • Resend for transactional email delivery;
  • Tawk.to for customer support chat and its optional automated assistant; and
  • AI or media providers only when you choose a feature that uses them.

We may also disclose information to comply with valid legal process, protect users and the service, investigate abuse, or complete a merger, financing, or sale with appropriate safeguards. We do not sell or rent personal information.

5. Retention

Your account, licence and device records are kept for as long as the account exists, and are erased when you delete it rather than flagged as inactive. Everything else is deleted automatically, by a job that runs every night:

  • Sign-in codes — deleted one day after they expire. They are single-use and last minutes; a day later the record can only say that a particular computer tried to sign in at a particular time.
  • Payment webhook records — deleted after 30 days. They exist only to recognise a repeat delivery of the same event, and our payment processor stops retrying after three.
  • Removed computers — deleted 90 days after you remove them, so a mistaken removal can still be looked into, and no longer than that.

Billing records live with our payment processor and are retained as tax and accounting law requires. That is outside our control and survives account deletion. Diagnostic records the Um Out panel keeps never reach us at all — they stay on your computer, and the panel has a switch that stops keeping them and deletes what it has.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including password hashing, encrypted transport, limited server credentials, signed license leases, and separated payment processing. No system is perfectly secure. Protect your password, use a unique credential, and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of personal information, object to some processing, or withdraw consent. You do not need to ask us to exercise the main two: sign in to your account, where Download my data returns everything we hold in one file, and Delete my account erases it. Deletion is immediate and permanent; any computer still signed in stops working at its next licence check. For anything else, or to correct something, email hello@umout.ai. We may verify your identity before completing a request.

8. International transfers

Our providers may process information in countries other than yours. Where required, we use recognized contractual or legal safeguards for international transfers.

9. Children

Um Out is a professional editing product and is not directed to children under 13. A person who cannot legally agree to these terms in their location may use Um Out only through an authorized parent, guardian, school, or business account.

10. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the product changes. We will post the new effective date and provide additional notice for material changes when required. Questions and requests can be sent to hello@umout.ai.
